Immigration records reveal that Fraulein Lucille Danhauer arrived at Ellis Island from Hanover, Germany in the late 1850s. Young Lucie made her way to New York City where, with husband Wilheim, she started a family. Little did she know then that her first name would be honored and cherished through three subsequent generations -- by my mother, myself and my daughter.

Hello, I’m Val Marier …. a freelance journalist who lives in Wells, Maine. I’m a graduate of Skidmore College, a contented and happy wife, mother and grandmother who also enjoys knitting, golfing, traveling and reading.
