SINGIN' THE BLUES

You probably know my political leanings. I don’t hide them but I don’t browbeat “friends of the other persuasion” about my beliefs. (Oh well, maybe occasionally?)

So let me say this: I am THRILLED with the midterm election. I am singin’ the Democratic blues!

Late last night, a favorite cousin who happens to be a life-long Republican, texted:  “Tonight is a referendum and repudiation of Trump. Compassionate Republicans love it.” I agree with her words.

Especially “compassionate” — that’s the word that really grabbed me. Because sadly, for the past 10 years of Trump-dom, I have not seen one ounce of compassion from the President. I’ve witnessed vanity, bravado, narcissism, viciousness, recklessness, divisiveness, nastiness and plenty of prevarication.

When I heard yesterday that numerous residents of Minneapolis took their I VOTED TODAY stickers to the exact spots where Renee Good and Alex Pretti were murdered by masked Ice agents last January, I thought: now that’s compassion.

I’ve watched tv clips of assumed drug boats being blown to smithereens in the Caribbean. I’ve heard him call a female White House reporter “Piggy.” I question his judgment when he boasts, “Prices have never been better!”

“If elected,” Trump vowed in 2024, “I promise lower food prices and no new wars.” Really?  At a time when gasoline prices exceed $4 a gallon, a box of Honey Nut Cheerios costs nearly $7, the tab for casual dinner for two at a local eatery rounds out to $100 (even though I don’t drink alcohol and Mr. W. limits himself to one glass of Cabernet), I wonder where those “lower prices” are.

And sadly, two days before the election, Trump renewed military action against Iran — a war which he had promised “will last less than a month.”

I heard Trump’s “closing campaign pitch” on Monday afternoon when he he stood in front of the Reflecting Pools in Washington, D.C.  (You know, the ones with the “sky blue” bottoms.) It took 22 ranting minutes about algae, faulty pipes, incompetent workmen et cetera ad nauseam before he got to the point of his address: vote as if I am on the ballot so that we can control Congress.

I believe voters across the country DID VOTE as if Trump were on the ticket.

Understand, Mr. Trump, it’s not “your” candidates’ fault they lost. They are not RINOS. They are/were loyal foot soldiers. They’ve barely registered a peep of resistance in 10 years. You’re even blaming Fox News for the losses! Come on!

Now, with the Senate and House in Democratic control, I pray they will remember why so many people voted against Trump on November 3. We don’t need retribution.  We just need to truly and actually make America great.  Once again.
